Please Forgive Me!

Yes, it's been 250 miles since my last confession (er..blog post).  In the last 3 months (since my last post) I have had a few (far too few) rides either alone or with a group and 2 organized charity rides.

On April 24th, I rode the Tour of Grace with a few friends.  It turned out to be a great day of riding.  It was only a little windy and the course was not very difficult.  We started from Louisburg College and headed south and then east into Franklinton before turning north and finally south again to complete a large loop.   We rode a total of 54 miles with about 1600 feet of climbing.  The temperature ranged from the upper 60's and into the 70's as the day wore on with wind at about 10 mph.  So overall, one of the easier days of riding.  A very nice way to start the season.

My second organized ride was the Duke Multiple Myeloma Metric, held in Durham NC.  It was a grueling 66 mile ride with nearly 3000 feet of climbing.  The weather made the ride slightly more difficult with temperatures ranging from 80's into the low 90's and only light wind.  The fun of the ride really started for me at mile 13 when I dropped my chain the first time and then again at mile 25...this, of course, was followed by a flat on mile 35 (going uphill also).  Fixing the flat helped me to realize that my back brakes were also broken!!!!!  (I know, this is starting to sound like one of those "If you give a pig a pancake" books!) And some of you wonder why I enjoy cycling so much!!!  Even with the dropped chains, flat, and tough ride I still really enjoyed my day on the road...I brought my bike to the shop later that afternoon (and it is killing me that I still don't have it back) for a tune-up, new tires, and a new crank (I wore out the existing one which led to my dropped chain issue).
