I think it should be added "and the cyclist just pedals right on through it."
Sunday was my single longest ride of the new season at 40 miles. It certainly felt good to get out on the road again, but the constant battle with the wind took quite a bit of energy out of me. According to the online weather almanac, the winds were constant at 9.2 mph and gusting up to 16.4 mph. I think only T.Boone Pickens could love a day like this...
I have certainly written before about my disdain for the wind (while cycling) so Sunday was no exception. I am definitely hoping that 40 miles into the wind (mostly, or at least that's what it felt like) will help my fitness for Saturday's 53 miles in Louisburg. The Tour de Grace looks like it is going to be a pretty nice ride through scenic/rural North Carolina...and trying to recreate their map in bikely (to the best of my visual ability) leads me to believe it will be about 1650 ft. of climbing over the 53 miles. At this point I'll just have to wait and hope for the best. Although, as Bob Dylan said "The answer my friend, is blowin' in the wind, the answer is blowin' in the wind".
